A Political Party System Promoting Liberty and Good Government

The democratic state uses the political party system in political governance. The Communist and capitalist form of government never enjoys the privileges that come with democracy.

Instead, the dictatorship form of management is the legislative language they understand. However, the political party that controls the government of the day determines good or bad political leadership.

Recently, there is a public outcry on proper administration even, in communist communities. It is the reason that we have global riots and demonstrations.

As much as they enjoy the dictatorial rule, the citizens have the upper hand in political service delivery. Our focus in this article is liberty and good governance from a political party system.

What is a political party system?

The main reason for a party system is the struggle for power. The difference in political ideologies pushes people to lean towards different political parties.

In turn, it brings about the voting system where citizens have the privilege to go through the ballot to choose the leading party of choice.

There is also a division on whether to go for a secret ballot or an open voting system. Each country embraces what works for them based on past political activities. The party system has three forms

  • Single party
  • Two-party
  • Multi-party system

The single-party system is similar to the communist and capitalist forms of government. Besides, the two-party system is all about dual political party system. Lastly, the multi-party system means several political parties fight for the leadership of a country.

Liberty

A state of freedom is among the human right stipulated in the constitution. However, since, in most of the countries, the leader of the government is above the law, they tend to violate this freedom is many ways.

It is this reason most states in a multi-party system sort to vote for able leaders who drive the political agenda. A case study in the United States when former President Barrack Obama viewed for the presidency, was not all about the democrat party, but it had to do with racism.

Obama is black. Some felt there was no way a black man could lead in a white country. It was a race against oppression, and the blacks had to prove a point in this kind of presidential election. The head of the political party determines whether the citizens are liberated or not.

One advantage of a multi-party system is the fact that the opposing party acts as a watchdog. They are free to carry out activities that put pressure on the government to listen to its citizens.

They act as advocacy groups highlighting the rots in the government of the day to make a change. However, some opposition leaders use this to gain political mileage. Since they are out of the race, they now play future politics as a tool for the next general elections.

A case study of promoting liberty in Canada is one country that enjoys all the privilege of Peace, Order, and Good Governance (POGG).

The sovereign state takes time to choose their political leaders. Unlike in Africa, where political greed takes center stage, destroying the fruits of a multi-party system, other countries benefit from a multi-party form of governance.

Communists or one-party systems lack this privilege. As the political lineage changes hands, the rights of the minority group are wholly ignored.

Good government

The difference in good and bad governance lies in the mode of decision making on government principles. Good governance is a wholesome overview of local management, national governance, international governance, and corporate governance.

Once the overall leader takes charge by example, the ripple effect rolls down to the regional state offices. The areas of focus to determine excellent management include

  • Upholding the rule of law
  • Participation
  • Transparency and accountability
  • Equity and inclusivity
  • Consensus
  1. The rule of law

A proper political party upholds the rule of law. Whether they are wrong or right, the constitution is the leading guide on the appropriate framework.

It needs to protect the human rights of vulnerable and minority groups. It acknowledges the independence of constitutionally-formed institutions without using their offices to violate their rights.

  1. Participation

Does your political party accommodate divergent opinions of its citizens? The political party should not be by name but by action. It needs to enjoy both men and women have equal opportunities in governance structure without any form of discrimination. Moreover, fair representation and association is the sole determinant of either a good or a lousy governance structure.

  1. Transparency

How open are you in the accessibility of government services? Do you violate the rights of the media- the main communication channel between citizens and political leaders?

An excellent political system accommodates both positive and negative feedback for equity among people despite their political affiliations.

  1. Equity and inclusivity

The only way to know if a country has proper supremacy then listen to its citizens; in case they are well accommodated, then it’s a clear proof of an appropriate style of leadership.

Do they feel their opinions and ideas are valued? Do they have a feeling they all enjoy a cut of the national cake? If yes, then that is a good indicator of a working political system.

  1. Consensus

Authority is not all about leadership. It looks at the historical, cultural, political, and social contexts of issues in decision making. Once all these are considered with no opposition, count yourself lucky to live in such a country or state.

When we talk of political development, what’s the input of citizens, vulnerable groups, men and women, and minority communities? If they all participate in crucial government decisions, then count yourself, you live in a proper government system.

In summary, good or bad governance is a broad view of conflict resolution, decision making, and local and international relations.
