Just how long before lying matters?

By Brian Willis

Yesterday, a friend of mine posted a link to the following article on his Facebook “wall”.

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2009/06/26/obamas-tax-increase-americans/

The article points out how Obama promised to cut taxes for 95% of people but is breaking his promises by supporting legislation such as Cap & Trade (a.k.a. Cap & Tax) that will dramatically increase costs for families at all income levels (perhaps by $1,600 to $3,200 per year).

Someone else promptly responded with the already tired argument to the effect that it took Bush 8 years to cause this mess so we need to give Obama more than a few months to fix it.

Hello??? What does that have to do with the soon to be increasing price of beans.. and everything else???

I responded with the following two primary points, further elaborated here.

1) If I hire a driver to take me from KY to MI, and the driver heads South, I don’t need very long to tell him he’s going in the wrong direction!

It’s not about progress vs. time!  Obama and this congress are taking us in the wrong direction!  More time will only make it worse.

Bush = Bad… Okay, fine.  But how does that fact make what Obama and this congress are doing good?

2) The depth and duration of problems has nothing to do with the current Administration’s lies and broken promises!

President Obama saying he won’t tax people below $250k of income, and then supporting passage of something that will increase prices (i.e. taxes) for everyone, is an intentional lie at worst or broken promise at best.

The same can be said for Obama’s new openness to taxing our healthcare benefits (something he clearly said was out of the question during the campaign) and other initiatives that will levy heavier taxes and fees on people and companies… all of which are ultimately paid for by “we the people” of all income levels.

The middle class, whom Obama said during his campaign needed help and protection, will be slammed hard by his lies and broken promises.

Obama’s “blame Bush” apologists need to wake up quickly and start smelling the issues!  … for all our sakes.

“President Obama saying he won’t tax people below $250k of income, and then supporting passage of something that will increase prices (i.e. taxes) for everyone, is an intentional lie at worst or broken promise at best.” For Obama’s, the lefts, base of support, these words ring true. You’ve gotta figure, what do employees of our federal bureaucracy pay in taxes, and how do its groups, lawyers, advocating of that bureaucracy get paid? An increase in the price of energy allows billions for energy assistance to be transfered, and spread out across the nation with no ability to insure the bulk of the money even makes to those for whom its intended. I believe, it is safe to say that, at least 80 percent of the money will pay for those distributing it, as it does in every other bureaucratic agency claiming to meet the needs of the people.

It’s time we keep the money in local jurisdictions, where “the people” know the needs of its people.

You give far too much credit to “the people” who, for the most part, are, in part, responsible for the mess we’re in except most everyone will blame someone else. Let’s assume we all agree that the public education, funded by our taxes is or was a great institution. Does that mean we keep piling more and more money into it to support the administration and teachers? Suffice it to say we have the best, most overtrained WalMart scanners anywhere in the world. And what good is high tech, for those who would make that argument, if we can’t even find one individual, OBL for example or even the “Unibomber” until he was turned in by his own brother. Education, or rather, over education is in itself a huge waste of taxes.

Really Expound Truth? Do you have any data to back that claim up, or does it just sound nice to claim that 80% of money pays for “those distributing it, as it does in every other bureaucratic agency claiming to meet the needs of the people.”

The people’s needs aren’t met be hearsay, ideology, and conjecture. They are met by facts, research, and argument.

    So, start posting some facts.

As for the so-called “tax-increase” because of cap-and-trade, that is not a tax increase. You have about as much of an argument claiming that as an “Obama tax increase” as you do claiming that his failure to bail out New York and California also constitute breaking his promise, as both of those states have to raise taxes (on that 95%) to meet their budgets as well.

The benefits of the cap-and-trade will be seen by generations to come through lower health-care costs due to reduction of pollution-related illness, improved crop yield, and more efficient use of our natural resources which themselves cost money.

The point missed by the Fox News writer, Peter Ferrara, is that EVERY TIME such a hurdle (increased cost of resources) has been faced by the industry, whether naturally, commercially, or by legislation, our industrial R&D machines have solved the problem by figuring out ingenious ways to either use the resources more efficiently or to switch to another resource that provides the same niche. They’ve continued down paths that many times result in an even better product for their consumers.

Peter Ferrara argues, however, that in 2050 we will still be even more reliant on fossil-fuel based energy. So much so, in fact, that the cost per-family will balloon by 60 times what it will be at the outset of the program. This is, for some reason, because Peter Ferrara must think that it is impossible for us to get energy from anything else besides fossil fuels.

I think that Peter Ferrara has zero faith in the ingenuity of the American inventive spirit. Peter Ferrara seems to have no respect for the accomplishments of Toyota Motor Corp, Tesla Motors, General Electric, any member of the SEIA, or any of the other existing small businesses that are currently pioneers in the non-fossil-fuel power industry.

Come to think of it, Peter Ferrara must have a complete disdain for these small-business pioneers. I wonder if he’s even worth paying attention to…

Hmm… seems that he was the “brains” behind the G. Dubya Bush proposal to privatize social security accounts. Yeah…

Hmm… he even admitted (and gloated) about taking money from convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff to write favorable op-ed pieces about Abramoff clients. According to Ferrara, “I do that all the time. I’ve done that in the past, and I’ll do it in the future.”. Yes… Integrity.

So, what is more believable? That this Fox News reporter is writing an honest article revealing “lies” to the American Public, or that he’s lining his coffers with money from opaque big-business interests for writing misleading op-ed pieces meant to scare Americans into having a negative view of cap-and-trade? I’ll take the latter.

It is the kind of governance that the CTP really wants to promote? “Policy” by the highest bidder.

    Hey Coleman…
    1) Whether 20% or 80% or whatever, there is a large price paid by funneling our local taxes through the Federal government and back to the local governments that would not be required if we just left the money in local hands, where it belongs.

    2) Unlike not bailing out California, the fees levied on companies that will be passed on to consumers, as well as our own increased energy costs, will be a direct consequence of the actions of this Administration and Congress. Do we really want to haggle over what the definition of “Tax” is? How very Clintonesque of you. It is a cost caused by government that, in net, results in extra revenue to government from the private sector. … um… a tax.

    3) “reduction in pollution related illness”? Now who’s making stuff up? Just a reminder, we’re talking about Carbon. I seem to recall that in other posts about Cap and Trade you like to substitute “Pollution” for “Carbon” to make your point sound more plausible. I’ve never seen any evidence that capping carbon will reduce healthcare costs… come on Coleman…. isn’t it just time to admit that EVERYTHING your guy is doing may not be the best thing?

Okay… so you voted for the guy. That’s okay. Forgive yourself so you can move past this constant denial and rationalization. :-)

    Regards,
    Brian

The fact is we don’t pay our fair share for our impact on the environment or on third world countries, someone else pays the price. This measure increases our accountability, no one likes it, but tough s*#@. The remark about Clinton is funny, that guy was as corporate as you can get and the right still whines as if he was a liberal! Cap and trade is here to stay, tighten your belt boys!

“Don’t pay our fair share?”… Tell me one nation that has contributed more to this world than ours?

Its the rest of the world that better tighten its belts because if you and your friends succeed in crippling the American economic engine, they’ll all be on their own soon enough.

“Health Care Bill Outlaws Private Insurance
by Sal on July 16, 2009

    in Politics

With the Health Care plan now having passed one committee in the Senate, more details are being uncovered as the language of the bill is being scrutinized. It seems the line “you will be able to keep your health insurance” is quite true literally. You will be able to keep your health insurance, but health insurance companies are prohibited from enrolling new members after the date of enactment. That means that if you change jobs, decide to switch plans, or any other action, you will be forced onto the government’s public plan.

The practical effect of this will be that the insurance companies will be driven out of business, as they will no longer be able to recruit new customers and grow. Over the course of a few years, the only plan left will be the public plan. The Democrats would accomplish their goal of of a single-payer universal health care system by forcing private insurance out of business.”

NOT only are the obamdems going to force us all into poverty but we will be at the government for our health care choices… that’s the scariness of this administrations goals,, there will be no ChOICES…
