How I wish upon a Czar

By Brian Willis

by Dan Kellner of the Liberty Township Tea Party, having a little fun.

How I wish upon a Czar, our government powers have gone too far!

Appointed up so very high, the Medical Czar, Yes, will deny.

Your treatment cost and age are great, sorry you must capitulate.

They must save Medicare and Medicaid, go home and drink your lemonade.

My stomach turns sour to see our nation, falling right into mass socialization.

Socialized health care has failed plenty you see, Canada, Britain, don’t just take it from me.

So why are we heading down this road, Oh so bold? Americans, be quiet, just do as you’re told!

You aren’t as intelligent and all knowing as us, state the President, his followers and many in Congress.

So ask them your tough questions, call and write. This battle for freedom is worth your fight!

    Chuck,
    Two points.
    1) Did you hear me say Bush, Bush, or Regan were right about everything?

    2) You tell me. Do the addition. Then come back and tell me if it is true the Obama has more than any before.

    3) Also, maybe you can tell me if the Bushes or Reagan had any who had backgrounds as members of Socialist or Communist groups.

BTW: You may want to reconsider the whole “they did something bad so so can we” argument. I think both sides (Con & Lib) have done that so far and I pledge to you, as I have to myself, to try not to do that ever again. It one thing to do it because you believe its right. Its another to do something wrong with the excuse that others did it too. What was that thing our mom’s always said about two wrongs not making a right? Or, not jumping off a cliff because our friends did? ;-)

    Regards

Brian, You obviously thought that Bush did something right, as you donated money to his campaign. Reagan invented the so called ‘czars’ btw.

    Chuck,
Sorry I don’t have time for more responses… let me address just one thing.

As for giving to Bush, you forget one very important thing. Its called the “Least Worst” factor or “lesser of two evils.” Yes, I have and will always support someone I think is bad if they are running against someone I think is worse.. where I have only two choices. It makes sense. I’m not trying to say Bush was ALL bad, but I think you get my point.

Also, I’ll take your word for it, for now, that Reagan invented Czars. That doesn’t make it right! Reagan did many great things but he was still not perfect. I’m not a Reagan worshiper. I have no Reagan shrine in my home. :-) Also, remember, I do what I can to avoid the “he did something wrong so its okay for someone else to also” argument. I think you may be stuck in a bit of a rut in using that basis of justification my friend.

    Regards

Hey Chuck.. quick question back to you.

Did you think that having Czars, being able to circumvent Congress, was a good idea when Reagan and the Bushes did it?

I look forward to your answer… Thanks!

If you think that the appointments violate the law, then I suggest that you take the matter up in a Federal Court. How about it?

    Chuck,
How about answering my question in post 5 instead of deflecting?

  8. Chuck Says:

How can I answer a question that is a non-sequitor? Tell me how YOU think they violate they law. I think that you’ve been watching too much Glen Beck.

    Chuck,
How can asking you if you thought Czars being introduced by Reagan was a good idea be a non sequitur?

Its a simple question. I didn’t even ask you if it was legal or Constitutional. I asked for your opinion. What do you think… Good idea, bad idea, no opinion?

BTW: I must point out the dismissive attitude behind just saying I’m watching too much Glenn Beck. Do you really have to resort to these tired dismissive tactics?

I have no opinion on the so-called ‘czars’ in general. The czar labels has been mischaracterized, such as the case with Richard Holbrooke, who has been labeled a ‘czar’ while in fact he is nothing but a State Department envoy, a role that he has played for several administrations. Other of the so-called ‘czars’ are economic advisers, such as Herb Allison & Carol M. Browner. These advisers do not have responsibilities for government departments, such as a cabinet secretary or undersecretary does, and do not require congressional approval, just as the White House Chief of Staff position does not require approval by the Senate. Period.

This whole ‘czar’ non-issue is invention of right wing conspiracy theorists and has been pushed by Rush Limbaugh, Beck and other right wing hate radio/tv personalities. Thus my previous statement is neither tired nor is it dismissive. It’s a fact. And since you are a member of the Glenn Beck 9/12 Conspiracy Theorist Group I assumed that you gained your misinformation on this topic from Glenn Beck. Perhaps you heard it from Rush. My bad.

It’s late, I’ve had too much to drink. So why don’t you enlighten us with your highly nuanced reasons why these positions violate the law? If you can. I’m going to sleep.

    Brian,

The Czars do not sidestep Congress, nor are they illegal.

Let me enlighten you with the way government works:

Congress writes and passes legislation. The president gets to review and chooses whether to sign or not sign it into law. Upon signing it into law, the president (the Chief Executive) is tasked with assembling his departments to “execute” the legislation that is written (this is why it is called the “Executive” branch). For large Congressional programs, the president may employ a cabinet-level adviser to oversee the management of said programs. We call these “Czars”, or sometimes “Secretaries” depending upon the program. Nixon created the first modern “Czar” when he appointed Jerome Jaffe as drug czar in 1971.

I think the whole concept is a good idea. There is a lot to manage at the federal level. As such, I would expect a smart, competent president to appoint ministers to oversee management and execution of these programs. This is an approach used many times in private enterprise, where VPs or “Directors” are created to oversee whole divisions.

Are you actually advocating that the President of the United States directly manage every single executive-branch program himself?

Get off the “what do you feel” line of questions. Here are some that I’d like to the CTP answer factually:

Do you know what an executive branch czar is?

    What is a Czar?

    Is a czar constitutional?

If not, what makes it unconstitutional?

If it is constitution, but you just don’t like it, what actually makes it a bad way to manage federal programs?

Oh I see. Lying to the American Public to invade another sovereign country, and then acting against the framework laid out in the Geneva Convention is simply a “doctrine”, but try and reform the US Health Insurance system and that is “High Crimes and Misdemeanors”.
