Corruption in the Butler County GOP
Via the Hamilton Journal-News:
The Butler County Republican Party can’t get out of its own way.
On Tuesday, we reported that Republican Party Chairman Tom Ellis, a Middletown-based Realtor, made about $25,500 from the sale of the party’s Fairfield Twp. headquarters building in July, according to those involved in the sale.
Ellis said he deserved the commission because he saved the Republican Party about $4,000 a month in mortgage. He said people called the sale “absolutely a miracle” because of the current real estate market.
I wish I could say it was unbelievable, but it isn’t. It is depressingly common. What does it say about him that he doesn’t see this as a huge conflict of interest?
He should resign. Now.

Be careful not to paint so broadly with that brush, Mike, as there are a LOT of good people in the Butler County Republican Party who are working hard to cut this cancer out of our party.
You say he should resign, but you don’t say why…
I think he should resign because he legally accepted money from the party while turning around and asking people to give even more to the party during the hardest economic times of our age. He has shown absolutely no willingness to sacrifice…that’s not leadership.
