The “Not So Conservative” State Central Committee….

By Dan Lillback

The Ohio Republican Party has stooped to the lowest levels in the past couple months to assure its 66-member state central committee stays intact.  The Ohio statewide Republican Party is made up of one elected male and female from each of Ohio’s 33 State Senate Districts.  These 66 people make decisions to fund and endorse numerous statewide, senate, and house elections using Republican state resources.

A never before seen steady stream of Ohio Republican State Central Committee mailers have blanketed most areas of Ohio over the last month and a half, and while the misconstrued “Tea Party Values” logo has disappeared on most of those mailers, the Republican party has moved at a fevered pitch to keep their current crop of incumbents in front of the likely voters.  All the while Tea Party and other conservative groups around the state are reporting record website hits to learn the names of the true conservative candidates.

The question to be asked is why would the current party elite fear the 50+ various conservative based candidates, many from statewide TEA Party groups who promise the same fiscal responsibility, limited government, and free market candidates, that the Ohio Republican party claims to provide Ohio.

The answer is the elite of the Ohio Republican party know they have dropped the ball when it comes to conservative candidate selection.  They are the same party that gave Ohio Bob Taft, the same group that gave Ohio Mike DeWine, again and again; the same group repackaged a solid county Prosecutor as a nonviable Statewide Auditor candidate.  The same Republican Party that is presenting the party endorsed Secretary of State candidate as a fiscal conservative, while in his previous position, he increased statewide spending, but it was a slightly less increase than his predecessors!

The same party that has run Ohio, using failed tax and spend policies to create only 176,000 non-government jobs in the last 20 years.  The same Republican party that caused more voters to switch parties in 2008 at a rate never seen before.

“It is on the shoulders of these elected state central committee officials the Ohio Republican Party creates it’s financial and electoral base.  We don’t need any more Republican candidates, who promise fiscal restraint in Ohio and spend like drunken sailors, promise limited government while expanding government programs, and touting the value of a program like Third Frontier, when they know this type of corporate welfare inhibits free markets,” said Jim Woods, State Central Committee candidate in State Senate District 22.

When you go the polls on May 4th, vote for the State Central Committee candidate that will give you what you want – less government, less spending, and more freedom – unless you are part of the 17% of voters that votes Republican regardless of the expected results.

A friend of mine in Montgomery County, Ret. Col. Charles ‘Chuck’ Henthorn, wanted to be on the ballot as a Republican Central Committee candidate. Although through as series of curious events he did not receive a nomination so that he could be the ‘endorsed’ candidate for his district. Nevertheless he’s running and but only a couple of days ago confirmed his name will appear on the ballot. If you’ve ever met the Colonel at one of the Dayton area TEA Party events or perhaps on one of his planned bus trips to DC, you know what a great conservative guy he is. I hope he gets our support as well; he has mine.

I’m sick of the mailers. Everyday we are getting John Husted, Tim Evans and Mary Swain mailers. I hope voters can see through this an ask why is the Republican party endorsing the same old people. They shouldn’t be endorsing anyone. Let the process work the way it should.

I met Chuck Henthorn on a trip to DC last fall. I cannot vote for him, but I urge anyone who can to support him next Tuesday.

Stop obsessing over electoral politics and build alternative institutions to the State if you really want to undermine the State.
Who you elect is not terribly important. Don’t allow yourselves to be convinced that politics (as practiced by those we elect) is driven by ideology.
